Diana Stetson
Originally from New York, award-winning painter Diana Stetson works in her studio in Albuquerque, NM. Childhood in the Hudson River Valley, Reed College in Oregon, Roehampton Institute in London for graduate work, and extensive study in Greece and Asia inform her work, which is created in layers. She starts with an abstract layer in acrylic, moves to a mixed media layer with graphic elements, and finishes with realistic images from nature in oil. For decades she has been committed to civic engagement through collaborative projects, public art, international cultural exchange, and work focusing on environmental issues. Stetson has received over 40 grants and awards for her work, including grants from the French Ministry of Culture in Paris, and the US State Department in Washington D.C. when she was invited in 2024 and 2016 to represent US artists as cultural liaison in Turkmenistan Her work resides in fine collections around the world, and her museum exhibitions have included Le Musée en Herbes in Paris; Museum of Fine Art in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan; NM Museum in Santa Fe, NM; Albuquerque Museum in Albuquerque; Portland Art Museum in Portland, OR.
