Coda Gallery hosted a special event to support Healing Courageously: Images from Night-side of Life. We are so grateful for those who supported the event and came out to see us. The photographic exhibit honored the strength and beauty of those facing illness.
Mission: The Heal Courageously project provides patients, caregivers and survivors the opportunity to document their journey through illness in photographs, at no charge.
We each move through the complexity of illness in our own way, but we are unified in our decision to heal courageously. We courageously face the unknown. We courageously embrace frightening treatment plans. We courageously care for loved ones. And we courageously ask for help. What you’ll find on this site is my desire to document these moments. It is not my intent to celebrate illness, but to honor the strength it takes to get through the night-side of life.
During my own journey through illness, I had the opportunity to be photographed. My treatment clearly marked me, and the changes in my appearance identified my battle. But the photographs captured much more than illness. Below the surface of our symptoms and side-effects of treatment live our courage and will. When I look at those images now, I am reminded of where I’ve been. The photos capture the beauty of the human spirit.
The Heal Courageously project provides patients, caregivers and survivors the opportunity to document their journey through photographs. When we are in the trenches with illness, we don’t have the luxury to think about anything other than just getting beyond it. To come through my treatment without anything more than a snapshot on my husband’s phone would be heartbreaking to me now. And that’s the catalyst for this project. This is where we honor our vulnerability, our strength, and the fragility of it all.
